Which of the following is not an endospermic seed?

A.
Castor
B.
Maize
C.
Rice
D.
Gram

Solution:

The correct answer is Gram. Gram is not an endospermic seed. Gram seed may be taken as an example for the study of the structure of a dicot seed. The gram seeds are brown in colour. They are pointed at one end and round at the other end. These are contained in a small fruit called, the pod. The gram pod is two or three-seeded. A seed is a mature ovule that comprises an embryo or a miniature undeveloped plant and food reserves, all enclosed within a protective seed coat. A seed is of two types namely, monocotyledonous seed and dicotyledonous seed. Important PointsEndospermic seeds are those that have endosperm in the mature seed. It is fleshy, oily, surrounds the embryo, and functions as the sole food storage organ. Endospermic seeds are those in which seed endosperm is located outside of cotyledons and cotyledons are tiny or leafy, ex: castor bean seeds. The endosperm is a tissue that surrounds and nourishes the embryo in the seeds of angiosperms (flowering plants). In some seeds, the endosperm is completely absorbed in maturity (e. g. , pea and bean), and the fleshy food-storing cotyledons nourish the embryo as it germinates. Additional Information
