Noam Chomsky, known as the father of modern linguistics, has made a crucial contribution in the field of linguistics. He has proposed theories that are primarily related to language development. According to Chomsky, the child has an innate ability to learn grammar and language. Chomsky believes that although the ability to learn a language is innate, the environment plays an essential role in learning and developing its principles and elements. According to Chomsky, an innate capacity to acquire language is the result of our uniquely human biological inheritance which is called the 'Language Acquisition Device' or LAD. It is a hypothetical tool in a child's brain that makes learners able to acquire and produce language.The term universal grammar has been used to describe the knowledge contained in the LAD. Chomsky's universal grammar suggests that all children have an innate ability to acquire, understand, and develop grammar.Thus, it is clear that children learn the mother tongue without any serious attempt to learn it, this is described as innate language faculty.
