In a language classroom teacher facilitates and motivates children towards transfer of concepts and skills from home language to language of instruction at school. This strategy

A.
confuses the students
B.
promotes language learning
C.
hinders learning of target language
D.
interferes in the development of proficiency in target language

Solution:

Most of the languages are acquired through the process of learning. Learning may be defined as a relatively durable change in behavior due to experience. It helps us adapt to the surrounding environment.Language learning refers to the result of deliberate and conscious effort in a formal environment, for a better understanding of foundational skills of language learning. If a child is a good reader in one language she/he can be a good reader in any language, this phenomenon is known as skill transfer which is a language learning strategy. If everything we learned was specific to the situation in which it was learned, the amount of learning that would have to be crammed in a lifetime would be phenomenal. But most learning and skills are readily transferable, to other situations with some modification. The influence that learning one skill may have on the subsequent learning of another is called the transfer of skills.Sometimes the transfer of skills could be positive or negative. Positive transfer of skill is when learning one skill does facilitate learning another. When one skill interferes with others, it is called a negative transfer of skill.Hence, it is clear that the above-mentioned strategy will promote language learning.
