Phonic approach: Phonics is one of the most important building blocks of reading. It may be referred to as a method used for teaching the reading and writing skills of the English language, which develops the phonemic awareness of the learners. It includes the ability to discriminate between sounds and shapes.Features of the Phonic Approach:Phonic approach focuses more on syllables and sounds of the words.It is more focused on the pronunciation of the words along with their spellings.It is found to be useful in schools where English is the medium of teaching.It may provide self-confidence to obtain reading skills as it provides readers with a tool for tackling new words or for discovering the written words.Within this approach, the sound unit is dealt with one at a time i.e. a single graphic unit in various positions, as for example the m in man, music or s in sit, star, vest, etc. From the above points, it is clear that 'It is helpful in better understanding of content' is not correct about the phonic approach in teaching.
