Solution:

Environmental studies are the study of the environment in the context of earth and living things. It is more concerned with the scientific attitude to explore, investigate, and develop an understanding of our natural, human, social and cultural dimensions of local and wider environments. At the primary level, social studies and social science are taught in an integrated manner based on real-life situations as Environmental Studies (EVS) that includes six themes ?(Family and Friends, Food, Shelter, Water, Travel, Things we make and do).For example, to connect with students a teacher instead of explaining facts and figures theoretically about "Nutrition", can ask the students to open their tiffin boxes, see the contents, followed by her explanation. The textbook of environmental studies at the primary level is based on these themes which refer to the thematic approach. It is also known as a multi-disciplinary approach where many concepts/topics are being taught in a collective manner. While teaching EVS, the teacher has to conduct various activities based on a child-centred approach as the main aim of all teaching activities is to make the child an active participant in the learning process. In EVS learning, the abstract concepts which are harder to understand are made simpler through experiments, demonstration, and activities to take them further to concrete concepts so that students can easily internalize them. ?Hence, the teacher can ask the students to open their tiffin boxes, see the contents, followed by her explanation.
