Environmental studies are taught in primary schools to develop an integrated perspective that incorporates knowledge from science, social science, and environmental education.At this level, environmental education is all about preparing students to become global citizens.The ability to think critically as well as create sensitivity and respect for the natural and socio-cultural surroundings. Goals of environmental studiesAccording to NCF 2005, the main goal of EVS is to expose students to the real-life world, natural and social, in which they live to enable them to analyze, evaluate and draw inferences about problems and concerns related to the environment.To add wherever possible to our understanding of environmental issues and to promote positive environmental actions to facilitate the move towards sustainable development.To raise awareness and understanding of children about the environment and build capacities to develop a holistic vision and participate in its protection.To achieve the above objectives, EVS is organized around 3 broad principles: learning about the environment, learning through the environment, and learning for the environment.??Hence we conclude that to achieve the goals of environmental education the curriculum should be based on learning about, though, for the environment.
