Assessment is the process of gathering, interpreting, recording, and using information about a learner's response to an educational task.It helps in diagnosing the gaps in realizing the objectives of EVS and taking necessary measures to provide feedback to students about their progress and also motivating and guiding them in future learning.The term "Assessment indicator" refers to a progression indicator that identifies children's essential capabilities and skills that will lead to the desired objective.Indicators for assessment in EVS include-Analysis: making hypothesis.Discussion: listening, talking, and expressing opinions.Experimentation: performing simple experimentsExplanation: thinking critically and making logical connections.Questioning: asking and raising simple questions.Expression: expressing thoughts through gestures writing and drawing.Cooperation: taking initiative and working together in a group.Observation and reporting: narrating and drawing, collecting and recording information.Concern for justice and equality: developing sensitivity towards disadvantaged people and the environment.Classification: comparing objects and classifying them on the basis of their physical structure.Hence, we conclude that observation and cooperation can be the indicator of assessment in EVS. HintRemember and recall cannot be an appropriate indicator for assessment in EVs as they promote rote learning and memorization that discourages hands-on experience.
