From the 1680s, Indian textiles were a craze in England and Europe due to their beautiful designs, textures, and relative cheapness. During British rule, the output from the Indian textile industry deteriorated. The British flooded the Indian market with machine-made textiles and The fabric was cheap, affordable, and readily available. This was the single largest reason for the decline of our textile industry. The British increased the taxes on the import of Indian cloth into Britain. Hence, India‚¬„¢s exports also fell dramatically. The British also actively exported Indian cotton to the mills outside India.
