United Nations Conference on Trade and Development was established in 1964 as a permanent intergovernmental body. UNCTAD is the part of the United Nations Secretariat dealing with trade, investment, and development issues.It supports developing countries to access the benefits of a globalized economy more fairly and effectively.It helps equip countries to deal with the potential drawbacks of greater economic integration. To do this,It provides analysis, facilitates consensus-building, and offers technical assistance to help them to use trade, investment, finance, and technology as vehicles for inclusive and sustainable development.India has been elected as Vice-President of UNCTAD.Currently, UNCTAD Secretary-General Mukhisa Kituyi took office on 1 September 2013. Dr. Kituyi has an extensive background as an elected official, an academic, and a holder of the high government office.
