When meaningful learning occurs, it produces a series of changes within our entire cognitive structure, modifying existing concepts and forming new linkages between concepts. Characteristics of Meaningful Learning:Meaningful learning is possible only when learners make a deliberate effort to relate new knowledge to the relevant concept they already know.It stresses the ability of the learner to apply what is learned because of the involvement of the learners.It is the active creation of knowledge structures from personal experience.The main focus of a meaningful learning system is to motivate students for gaining knowledge, not for performance, that's why the grading system takes the place of the percentage system.Meaningful learning is possible when the learner's thoughts are divergent and they are able to collect knowledge, i.e. discovery learning. So that we can conclude that the encouragement of meaningful learning is only for gaining knowledge, not for the marks.Hint Meaningful learning never promotes rote learning or memorization, it is always based on concepts and logic.Making a competitive environment by the teacher makes a negative impact on the learners because not all the students are the same in the classroom as per their performance and cognition.The environment of meaningful learning is always child-centered instead of teacher-centered because it focuses on the needs and abilities of the students.
