Here's the question bank on all the child development and pedagogy topics.
Which of the following factors affect learning?(i) Attitude of the learners(ii) Age of the learners(iii) Pedagogical strategies of teaching(iv) Socio-cultural content of the learners
Learning has been defined as a relatively permanent change in behavior that occurs as a result of practice/experience. Learning is central to our behavior as we learn to speak, write, think and perceive. Our attitudes and emotional expressions are also learned behaviors.Physiological Factors: The body is physiologically mature and ready, academic learning cannot take place. A simple example, a newborn can't be expected to take in the details of an object for his vision is unfocused. Further, physiological maturation is one of the major factors affecting the memory span of a human being. The ability to remember things of course a pre-requisite to any learning. Psychological Factors: Several psychological factors such as intelligence, personality, attitude, interest, and aptitude have considerable influence on the learning of a child. Apart from these, motivation, self-concept, and readiness are a necessity, and often learn to read with little instruction.Physical Factors: Learners' cognitive development, Age, Nutrition, etc, are also the major factors that affect the learning of the learners.Socio-emotional Factors: Family factors such as child-rearing practices, reward, and punishment, the scope for freedom and independence in activities, play and study facilities, the ambitiousness of the parents, disorganization, and discord among members, degree of maturity expected of the boy or the girl child, birth position such as eldest, youngest or single child have their definite influence on learning. Socio-cultural Factors: Learning of a student is also done by the interaction with the society, peers, family, etc. So socio-cultural factor is also one of the major factors that affect the learning of the student,Educational Factors: Learning problems may occur because of inadequate or inappropriate teaching. The child pay has difficulty in learning because the teacher does not provide adequate or appropriate instruction. Environmental Factor: The condition of the setting where the learning process takes place, can also enhance or interfere with the intake of information. If the rooms are not well ventilated, the lighting poor, the space cramped, the environment excessively noisy, or the surroundings polluted then there will be interference in the children learning. So by all these references, we can conclude that there are many factors that affect learning such as age, social context, attitude, and learning strategies.Important Points Apart from these general factors, there are certain other elements of the learning task that determine how soon and for how long a task is learnt. These may be termed the Laws of Learning.Law of Use - practice or use of any response strengthens it.Law of Disuse - any response not used for a long time is likely to be forgotten.Law of Primacy - all things being equal, the acts performed first or things learned first are likely to be remembered longer.Law of Recency - the more recent the exercise the stronger is its memory.Law of Readiness - if the nerve's pathway is ready for action, the response quickly follows.Law of Effect - A successful reaction that gives satisfaction is more likely to be learned and repeated than that action that is painful.
