Question Bank - Computer Networks

Here's the question bank on all the computer networks topics.

For a 10 Mbps Ethernet link, if the length of the packet is 32 bits, the transmission delay is (in milliseconds)

A.
3.2
B.
0.0032
C.
0.032
D.
32

Solution:

Concept:Ethernet is the technology for connecting devices in a wired local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN) while enabling them to communicate with each other via a protocol. An ethernet cable is the encased wiring over which the data travels.Ethernet defines two units of transmission frame and packet. Each frame is wrapped in a packet that contains several bytes of information to establish the connection and mark where the frame starts.Transmission delay: Denote the length of the packet by L bits and denote the transmission rate of the link from router A to router B by R bits/sec. The formula for transmission delay is given as:\(T.D = \frac{L}{R}\)Calculation:R = 10 MbpsL = 32\(T.D = \frac{32}{10}=3.2 ~\mu sec\)= 0.0032 ms
