India is a multi-lingual country with numerous languages and dialects. There are approximately 1652 languages and dialects that belong to the five different language families in the country.There are 22 scheduled languages mentioned in the 8th schedule of the Indian constitution. Around 40 languages are used as a medium of instruction in schools and universities and the English language is one of them. In India, English finds its place as an 'associate official language' because English occupies an important place in India. The English language marked its entry into India with the establishment of the East India Company.Initially, English was mentioned as an official language in the Constitution of India in Article-343.English was declared as the Associate Official Language of the Union of India for an indefinite period by an Act of Parliament in 1963.English was endorsed by the Indian Constitution to be used for all the official purposes of the union for a period of 15 years (i.e.up to 25 January 1965)?.The Indian citizens started using the English language since the Britishers ruled India. It is one of the languages for learning activities that create awareness of the world among children.It was a library language in the past but now it is viewed as a link language to communicate in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual society such as India. People find English is more linkable as it has its own global identity.English has become more popular in recent years due to the rapid urbanization and globalization, changing employment trends, the widespread use of the internet in daily life, and the popularity of English films and news channels, etc.Hence, it could be concluded that English was included in the eighth schedule of the constituent of India through the official Language Amendment Act-1967, is the incorrect statement regarding English as a language in India.
