Vocabulary refers to the set of words an individual uses as a tool for communication. It is a collection of familiar words used or understood by an individual or group of people.The core vocabulary of the first language is learned quite naturally at home. Neither the child nor his/her family has much to say about the words that must be learned - those are given by the immediate environment and the culture. The vocabulary of a second language can thus be decided by the teacher, the textbook, or the school. The development of vocabulary is very important for the students.Defining new words within the context of the text is considered as the best strategy for learning words or developing their vocabulary.Contextual learning makes education more experiential, holistic, integrated, inquiry-driven, discovery-oriented, learner-centered, discussion-based, and, of course, enjoyable.Under contextual pedagogies, the teacher emphasizes the use of contextual words so the students could relate words in the context. Using such words develops contextual understanding in depth. It is based on the fact that language is used to refer to a particular context or situation. It is very important in language teaching classrooms to create situations that make the learners use the known words and sentences. Hence, it is clear that defining new words within context instead of making the children learn the meanings of new words helps in better understanding of the word.
