Read the following and choose the correct alternativeAssertion (A): Reading and writing skills help in critical thinking at primary level.Reasoning (R): Critical thinking is a sub-skill of reading and writing
A learner becomes an effective learner by developing powerful habits of mind that enable her/him to think critically, do things creatively, and regulate her/his behavior.Critical thinking aims at simplification/ generalization on the one hand and truth and accuracy on the other. Thinking critically involves seeing and observing things in an open-minded way and examining an idea or concept in a way to form as many angles as possible. Critical thinking is treated as the sub-skill of language skills like writing and reading as it helps in the development of logic and generalization of language. At the primary level, the critical thinking of students is not well developed. Critical reading goes hand in hand with critical thinking. To read a text critically a reader has to employ the ability to question what is before him/her on the page in terms of the context or situation. It may mean that judgments and analyses are made on the basis of the values and standards we have. It may also engage learners in prediction and guessing.Critical writing is writing that analyses and evaluates information, usually from multiple sources, in order to develop an argument. It helps in making logical connections between ideas.Critical writing involves students studying together and analyzing information to understand a problem or topic from more than one perspective. It also involves offering own perspective on the topic based on own evaluation of the available evidence.Hence, it could be concluded that A is not true but R is true.
