According to National curriculum framework 2005 Environmental studies is a subject (classes III to V) that integrates and incorporates the concepts and theories from science, social science and environment. EVS is not taught in primary classes (I and II) but the concepts that are important to understand at that age are taught through language, mathematics and poetry. It says that the books should be constructed in a way that children get a lot of space to learn and explore by the process of thinking, observing and doing. The purpose of integrated Environmental studies is to develop an individual's social, physical and emotional potential. EVS enables direct interaction and learning activity both within and outside the classroom which helps children grasp multidisciplinary environmental challenges.Aims of teaching EVS at primary level Making the connection between what you learn in school and outside of school.Adding value to the curriculum by going beyond textbooks.Increasing the flexibility and adaptability of tests.Assuring that rote learning practices are abandoned.Hence, we conclude that according to NCF 2005, EVS syllabus is integration of Environmental education, Social science and Science.Important Points NCF (National Curriculum Framework) 2005 which acts as guideline for textbooks, syllabus and all the teaching procedures, released by NCERT is the 4th national curriculum framework and its predecessors were released in 1975, 1988 and 2000 respectively.
