An EVS teacher has decided to give a home activity for students to understand the process of germination. Which among the following is the most suitable activity:
Learning by doing, or activity approach is integral to the process of experiential learning. Learning is more fun for the learner and teaching more fun for the teacher. The objective of the exercises and activities is not so much to evaluate the student's knowledge but to provide an opportunity for the student to express themselves.Germination- Germination is a process by which a plant grows from a seed. Children were asked to set several wet paper towels in a jar having no excess water in the jar and then place moong seeds in the jar near the bottom half of the jar. Then place them by the window and wait. After a couple of days, they will see the seeds start to sprout. And after about a week they will start to grow. By observing the germination of sprouts from moong the children will notice and make inferences about the seed germination.Hence, we conclude that the most suitable activity to understand the process of germination is the observation of germinating sprouts from moong.Whereas preparing charts with diagrams, watching video clips, or planting seed in a pot will not be that helpful in understanding the process of germination at home. As children will not be able to see the seed sprouting.
