EVS at the primary level is not a single subject area. It is visualized as a composite study area that draws learning experiences from physical, biological, chemical social, cultural, and other dimensions of study. The thematic approach in EVS- The contents of the EVS syllabus are organized around curricular themes like food, shelter, water, travel, etc.The intention behind this thematic organization is to correlate two or more disciplines of study or school subjects.It will help children develop an interrelated and connected understanding of the subject studied rather than a fragmented view of it.By establishing such connections and relationships through immediate experiences, children develop abilities to comprehend more abstract concepts and relationships in the environmental realm at a higher level of education.The thematic approach encourages students to participate in the topics relevant to them. Children will be able to relate to real-life experiences and build an existing understanding of the subject.Hence, we conclude that the thematic approach has been adapted instead of topics because it enables a connected and interrelated understanding, easier teaching and understanding, and helps students to learn from experiences.
