The main objective of EVS teaching and learning is to enable children to learn about the environment by developing an awareness of the natural, social, and cultural environment.Methods to make EVS learning meaningful-Asking questions at the beginning of each subtheme- Chapters that begin with key questions, initiate children into thinking and constructing their own knowledge.Storytelling and narratives- Storytelling opens door to a new world for children. It allows children to discover new concepts and knowledge unknowingly learning key life lessons by listening to an interesting, fascinating story.Involving children in hands-on activities- This will help children construct knowledge by actively participating in the learning process. Teachers should not promote memory-based learning because it makes information readily available for students.Providing opportunities to explore their environment- Opportunities for exploration help children develop critical thinking, promotes meaningful learning experience, and encourage higher levels of student performance.Hence, it is clear from the above-mentioned points that in EVS meaningful learning cannot be provided by involving children in memory-based learning.Memorization is not an effective strategy of learning because it doesn't allow for a deeper understanding of a subject.
