From July 1829, the newspaper began to appear in both Bengali and English; the Bengali and English sections represented translations of each other. From January 1832, the Samachar Darpan began to be published twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Swadesamitran Swadesamitran was a Tamil language newspaper that was published from the then Madras city from 1891 to 1985. Swadesamitran was founded by Indian nationalist G. Subramania Iyer. The name translated from Tamil to English literally means "friend of self-rule". It was originally started as a weekly and became a daily by 1889. Young IndiaYoung India was a weekly paper or journal in English started by Mahatma Gandhi. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi started this English journal in 1919. The first issue of Navjivan with Gandhi as the editor came out on 7 September 1919. Young India under Gandhi was a bi-weekly publication, but the additional responsibility of supervising the weekly Navjivan forced Gandhi to turn Young India into a weekly newspaper.
