Who is the 1st Indian to use the word ‚¬ËœSwaraj‚¬„¢?
The correct answer is Dadabhai Naoroji. In 1906, Dadabhai Naoroji (who was the President of the INC session at Calcutta), and in his Presidential address, used the word Swaraj. Thus, the word, ‚¬ËœSwaraj‚¬„¢ wasn‚¬„¢t untouchable to them, but they were reluctant to pass the resolution over ‚¬ËœSwaraj‚¬„¢. Therefore, Dadabhai Naoroji was the first Indian to use the word Swarajya in 1906. Bal Gangadhar Tilak:Tilak was born on 23 July 1856 in Ratnagiri district in Bombay(Maharastra). He became the first popular leader of the Indian independence struggle. He was part of the popular triumvirate of Lal, Bal, and Pal. The famous quote that made him one of the first and strongest advocates of Swaraj was "Swarajya is my birthright and I shall have it". The British colonial authorities called him "The father of the Indian unrest. "He appreciated the importance of identity issues in Modern India and motivated people to join the struggle for independence. Additional InformationSwaraj means implementing a system whereby the state machinery is virtually nil, and the real power directly resides in the hands of people. Swaraj means self-government and the term was first used by Dada Bhai Naoroji who presided over the Calcutta Session of Congress in 1906, declared Swaraj as the goal of the Indian People. This session was dominated by Extremist headed by Bal Gangadhar Tilak who gave the famous slogan- ‚¬Å“Swaraj is my Birth Right and I shall have it. ‚¬Swaraj is often used synonymously with the home rule of Swami Dayanand Saraswati. However, Swaraj was given a wider interpretation by M. K Gandhi in 1909.
